[Ministry] Bread & Water

The World is a grand buffet arrayed in every way to appease the eyes of its onlookers. The aroma is appetizing and it lures us into its grasp with ease. We go into the world gorging ourselves day after day and scraping the plate of our pleasure yet returning to our bed at night with an empty stomach.

The food we allow into our soul daily looks fulfilling yet lacks sustenance. The gaping hole left barren within every human soul can’t be filled with the finger food of sin. Drugs, sex, fame, and status all serve as appetizers yet never quench the hunger of man.

The bible says that the wages or payment of sin is death. There is a never ending thirst when your drink of choice is sin. While the world offers what looks good yet doesn’t satisfy, God has a menu of His own that provides eternal satisfaction.

In the scriptures we see that bread is often used to typify the body of Christ that was given as a substitutional sacrifice for the sins of man. In the book of John Chapter 6 vs 35 it reads;
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

Here The Lord was telling the Jews that He indeed is the true bread that came from heaven which was typified by the manna or wafer like substance that fell from heaven in exodus to feed the Jews coming out of Egypt. That bread was for the physical body and was a temporal supplement yet Jesus Himself is an eternal sustenance for the soul of man.We could speculate that this wafer like substance wasn’t much for taste or appeasing to the eyes yet it was what the Jews needed to survive.

When a sinner looks at salvation they often judge by their carnal sight opposed to believing what the scriptures say. They feel that they will be miserable, uptight, and a blind follower of a belief that only takes and doesn’t give. The issue is that they couldn’t be more misled. God so loved the world that He gave. The sacrifices the believer makes to follow Christ give more then take. This same misconception occurs when we walk by sight opposed to faith.

We then see the captor which is Satan as the deliverer and the deliver who is Jesus Christ as the captor. This is all because of how things look opposed to what they actually are. This allows the sinner to eat dumpster food disguised as a gourmet meal. The sinner looks for quantity and overlooks quality.

Water in scripture also typifies Jesus in the Spirit which we know as the Holy Spirit. The water that sprung forth from the rock at Horeb in Exodus symbolizes the sacrifice of Jesus bringing about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told the Samaritan woman in John 4:13 & 14 that

“Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again..But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

The Holy Spirit is the best drink in the house. Many prefer coolaid, punch, lemonade, or soda and while they taste awesome, they do no good to someone’s health. The spiritual drink of God keeps the believer hydrated and filled. In conclusion, the fast food of life can never compare to the soul food of our Savior Jesus Christ.
